COLORFUL NEWS

This is being written on March 26th, while we are still waiting for the elusive spring to arrive. Hopefully when you get this, we’ll be enjoying balmy temperatures and energy and enthusiasm for learning new techniques. This summer’s offerings are varied and include many fun projects which are hot out of the latest magazines and books.

Sue Kelly will teach you how to paint or take the color out of your fabric and your finished quilt, as shown in the new British book The Painted Quilt. Cyndi Kaye will show you how to take a landscape photo and turn it into an art quilt, by sketching and abstracting the photo. Tina Hughes will guide you into finishing a wonderful fabric book using some of those journal projects and small experiments that are tucked away in your sewing room.

Judy McDowell keeps coming up with exciting new felting techniques and this time she introduces us to nuno felting, which integrates wool fiber with silk sheer fabric for a totally unique look. She also will teach felted jewelry methods for exquisite accessorizing. Rick Petersen will repeat his popular fairy class from this spring- the results were spectacular. Susan Antell will run both the one day and the dyeing series- come to discover the joy of turning white fabric into gorgeous rainbows.

Mary Holland offers a class in marbling- this is a real treat as Mary is the best marbling artist I have ever seen. Cyndi Kaye repeats her great class in batik using the new soy wax, which is environmentally wise and healthier than paraffin and beeswax. Finally, I will teach some of the techniques from the journal class in short daytime or evening classes. If you want more, I’ll teach five journal techniques in one fun-filled day of play.

When you want to get out for some serious shopping, there is the spring sale on April 17, 18, and 19. Come in for 25% off on everything and 50% off on selected fabrics, books, and patterns. Then on May 1-3 set out on the original shop hop, the Twin Cities Shop Hop. Three sewing machines, a queen sized quilt, and eight $200 prizes make this a fantastic way to spend a day or two. In August, the state wide shop hop takes place during the first two weeks. Over 90 shops will participate, with 16 in the metro area offering bus trips to all 16 shops the first two weekends of the hop. See information inside the newsletter for more details.

We hope you’ll join us for a class, a shop hop, and shopping. And don’t forget your show and tell!
