Susan Stein's
Double Wedding Ring Quilts
 |
Susan Stein began quilting in 1977. Since then she has
designed and sewn hundreds of wall pieces, liturgical hangings, garments,
and bed quilts. She enjoys using hand-dyed fabrics purchased from artists
all over the country. Her specialties are employing innovative approaches
to traditional patterns as well as designing original pieces incorporating
texture and vibrant colors. Natural and Southwestern themes are prevalent
in her work, influenced by her travels in the western United States. Samplers
and Double Wedding Ring quilts are of particular focus for her. Susan is
a published author of two books and many articles, teaches nationally and
at her quilt shop Colorful Quilts & Textiles in St. Paul, Minnesota
and has designed projects for several publications. |
| Double Wedding Ring quilts
have long been a passion for Susan. She has created dozens of quilts in
this pattern, pushing the envelope of this traditional pattern into innovative
contemporary fiber art techniques. This lifelong exploration has culminated
in her newest book, Double Wedding Ring Quilts, Coming Full Circle.
This 98 page book contains color photos of 24 quilts, all variations on
a single theme! Each quilt features color photos of how-to steps and well
as detail photos. |
| "Rather than calling myself
an art quilter, I use the term 'transitional quilter' because I like to
take a very traditional pattern and update it with the use of wonderful
artist-dyed fabrics, embellishments, and surface design techniques. Samplers
and Double Wedding Rings are among the most familiar of patterns and lend
themselves well to contemporary interpretations." |
